FREQUENT QUESTIONS

In case you haven't seen it yet, take a look at our video below which answers the 10 most common questions our customers have:

What is an air source heat pump?

An air source heat pump absorbs heat from the outside air to heat your home and hot water. They can even extract heat when the air temperature reaches as low as -28°C.

Air source heat pumps still need electricity to run, but because they are extracting renewable heat from the enviroment, the heat output is greater than the electricity input which makes them a great way to heat your home efficiently.

WILL MY UTILITY BILLS REDUCE?

Installing an air source heat pump could reduce your utility bills especially if you are replacing conventional electric heating.

Is an air source heat pump right for me?

To determine if an air source heat pump is right for you, there are a few things to consider;

  • Do you have somewhere to put it? - You'll need a place outside your home where a unit can be fitted to a wall or placed on the ground. The external unit is connected to an internal unit

  • Is your home well insulated? - Air source heat pumps work best when producing heat at a lower temperature than a traditional boiler. So it is important that your home is well insulated to prevent heat-loss.

hoW MUCH WILL REPLACING MY EXISTING SYSTEM COST?

As a rough guide, you can expect to pay around £13,000 - £16,000 plus VAT for a  single fan air source heat pump system which would suit 4/5 bedroom properties.

HOW LONG DOES AN INSTALLATION TAKE?

On average a typical installation would take 4-5 days.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A LOW WATER (LWT) AND A HIGH WATER TEMPERATURE (HWT) AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMP?

A low water temperature heat pump runs up to 60°C meaning  your existing radiators might have to be upgraded. It would be suitable in a house refurbishment or large extension where underfloor heating can be laid.

A high water temperature heat pump can achieve flow temperatures up to 70°C which can be used to retro-fit into an existing property But here at Hello Renewables, we always aim for a 50/55°C flow temperature to keep electricity costs down.
